Galvalume Steel Coil – Practical Al-Zn Coated Steel for Real-World Projects

  • Time:2026-05-25

Galvalume steel coil has become a steady choice for people who need something tougher than ordinary galvanized but don’t want to jump straight into stainless. The coating is roughly 55 percent aluminum, 43.5 percent zinc and a small amount of silicon. That mix creates a protective layer that handles salt air and industrial atmospheres noticeably better than plain zinc in most long-term tests.

We run these coils on our own lines in Shandong. The steel strip goes through the molten alloy bath, and the resulting surface is smooth enough for further painting if the customer wants color later. Because we also operate three color-coating lines right next door, many buyers order the plain Galvalume first and then decide on painting after seeing samples.

Thickness usually starts at 0.12 mm for light roofing sheets and goes up through 0.5 mm, 0.8 mm and 1.2 mm for more demanding spans. We can go heavier when structural needs require it – our equipment handles up to 7 mm on certain widths. Standard widths sit between 600 mm and 1250 mm. Coating weight is commonly AZ50 to AZ150 for most export orders, though AZ200 and AZ275 are available when the project sits right on the coast.

In practice, the biggest advantage shows up in places with heavy monsoon rain or constant sea breeze. A roof that might start showing rust on regular galvanized after two or three seasons often stays clean much longer with this coating. The aluminum also bounces back a fair amount of solar heat, which matters in the Middle East and parts of West Africa where daytime temperatures stay high for months.

We’ve shipped these coils to Nigeria, Kenya, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia and several countries in Central Asia over the years. Each market has its own quirks – some want thicker gauges for high-wind areas, others care more about the surface being easy to paint on site. Our team adjusts the passivation and oiling to match what the local fabricators actually use.

The factory itself is 30,000 square meters with roughly 200 people working across production, quality and packing. One dedicated galvanizing line plus the three color lines give us decent flexibility on both plain and painted material. All the usual certificates – ISO9001, SGS, SONCAP and others – are in place, which helps when containers reach ports with strict inspection.

If you’re comparing options for an upcoming roofing or cladding job, send us the thickness, width and coating weight you have in mind. We’ll reply with current stock positions, production lead time and a realistic freight estimate. Samples are straightforward to arrange, and we’re happy to discuss how the material behaves during roll-forming or on-site installation based on what we’ve seen with other customers in similar climates.

No hard sell. Just let us know what your project actually needs.
